Electric Car Dreams Shatter
Despite the billions spent by the likes of Renault-Nissan to develop electric cars, optimism about their future has dampened considerably. Carmakers are going back to the drawing board in the hunt for fuel-saving technologies as hopes that electric vehicles will be the silver bullet for CO2 emissions look increasingly forlorn.
Billions up for grabs - Yahoo!7
The Tasmanian Government stands to gain billions of dollars in carbon credits from native forests earmarked for protection under the forest peace deal...Tasmanian farmers are being encouraged to look into the benefits of the Federal Government's carbon farming initiative.

@toxicpath Yes--its difficult to find a natural mechanism that could lead to similarly rapid & large changes in global mean temperature...
Flashback
[David Archibald] What is also interesting is the 2.2° temperature rise from 7.8° in 1696 to 10.0° in 1732. This is a 2.2° rise is 36 years [in Central England]. By comparison, the world has seen a 0.6° rise over the 100 years of the 20th century. That temperature rise in the early 18th century was four times as large and three times as fast as the rise in the 20th century.

The significance of this is that the world can experience very rapid temperature swings all due to natural causes. The temperature peak of 10° in 1732 wasn’t reached again until 1947.

Wow, when I click on the link now, it says:

The Federal Opposition has questioned the modelling used to predict a $2.5 billion windfall in carbon credits for Tasmania.

The windfall is predicted if the Forest Peace deal passes the Upper House.

The Commonwealth has confirmed forests protected under the peace deal can be credited under the Carbon Farming Initiative.

it no longer mentions Carbon stored in the trees is valued, and the credits traded on international markets to offset emissions.

Too bad this wasn't loaded into the wayback machine...
