NOAA: Global warming over the last fifteen years is significantly faster than the long-term trend, as long as "the last fifteen years" ends in 19-freakin'-95

Independent Evidence Confirms Global Warming in Instrument Record | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
A new compilation of temperature records etched into ice cores, old corals, and lake sediment layers reveals a pattern of global warming from 1880 to 1995 comparable to the global warming trend recorded by thermometers.
...Both records also show that the global warming in the last 15 years of the record (1980–1995) is significantly faster than that of the long-term trend (1880–1995).

This paper actually has much to offer:

First, 15 years is sufficient to claim a faster warming trend. That also means 15 years of no warming since 1997 is sufficient to claim that warming has stopped.

Second, the warm stretch in the 1940’s was confirmed in the paper. Unfortunately, from 1910 to 1940’s the warming rate was the same as the rate from 1970’s to 2000.

Third, tree rings are apparently no longer a valid proxy for temperature, as they are not listed as one of the proxies used.

Is this another NOAA own-goal?
