LONDON, April 18 (Reuters Point Carbon) – Britain has been urged to scrap its carbon floor tax after the failure of an EU proposal to prop up carbon prices could leave British power companies having to pay 10 times more than European competitors for each tonne of carbon dioxide they emit - a move that will also distort energy prices across the EU.

The temperature dropped to 9 degrees this morning at Vance Brand Municipal Airport, breaking the record low of 10 for the date, set in 1953.
This is the latest in the spring that Longmont's temperature has dropped into single digits in weather records dating to 1910, according to Times-Call weather consultant Dave Larison.

Chevron was optimistic when it worked on the low-carbon fuel standard with Schwarzenegger’s team in 2007, said Desmond King, president of Chevron Technology Ventures, which oversees emerging technologies. Former biofuels chief Zalesky, now the company’s general manager of crude and manufacturing strategy, was among several Chevron officials who helped craft the rule.

As the company put theory into practice, trying to make a propellant out of wood’s sugar-rich fibers, it realized the rule was too ambitious, King said. The research didn’t lead to anything that would be commercially viable, he said.

"It's going to be a two-way street. We'll be using our research to enhance the index, and we'll also use the index to enhance our research," Hellmann said.
