When Bianca Brooks first decided she was going to Bangladesh to witness the effects of climate change first hand, she didn’t know what to expect.
“I wanted to travel,” Bianca, now a junior at Oakland Technical High School, said. “I didn’t know much about climate change, but the more research I did and the more I learned about it, the more sense of urgency I had about it.”
The journey to Bangladesh was part of the American Youth Leadership Program, a national, federally-funded project sponsored by the U.S. State Department and World Savvy, a global education and community engagement nonprofit. Twenty-nine hand-selected youth, including Bianca, and five educators from across the country made the month-long trip last December.
