Bruce Wielicki, a scientist at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, said the report is based on sound science and should serve as “a wake-up call for all of us here in Hampton Roads.”
The region is one of the most seriously threatened areas in the country because of its vulnerability to rising sea levels, Wielicki said.
Current research indicates that mean sea level could rise as much as 7 feet by 2100, he said. On top of that, the storm surge from a severe hurricane, now in the 9-foot range, could reach 11 feet. So the combined effect in such a storm would be 18 feet – twice the water level experienced in today’s hurricanes, Wielicki said.

NASA climate hoax promoter Bruce Wielicki: In the next 87 years, trace amounts of CO2 might cause Virginia hurricane storm surges to double from 9 feet to 18 feet
