Serious or spoof?: People who unnecessarily fly millions of miles on fossil fuel-guzzling planes call for climate hoax action, since CO2 emissions allegedly cause bad weather that causes delays of fossil fuel-guzzling flights

United Frequent Flyers News Release June 10 2013 - Flying Clean
AT 30,000 FEET – Thousands of elite frequent flyers, joined by tens of thousands of everyday flyers, today urged United Airlines to stop undermining the future of aviation by blocking significant action on climate.

The call comes at the start of a week of key meetings of the international group working to set a standard for aviation pollution, and two days before United’s annual shareholder meeting. More than 500 elite United Airlines premier status frequent flyers – including 20 members of the exclusive invitation-only Global Services program, several flyers with 1-to-6 million miles as well as frequent flyer guru Randy Peterson – signed a letter to United’s CEO Jeff Smisek.

“United is hyping up its recent efforts to reduce emissions on one hand, while on the other, fighting commonsense policies that would curb emissions on a much greater industry-wide scale. That doesn’t fly,” said Michael Walsh, a six-million-miler United Global Services member who, in his day job, works to bring clean vehicle technology to the world.
The New York Times recently reported that three trans-continental USA or trans-Atlantic flights produce almost as much climate change pollution as the energy use of an average American household for an entire year. Aviation would be the 7th largest emitter of climate change pollution in the world if it were a country. Meanwhile, more and more people around the world are flying, and if left unchecked airplane pollution will double by 2020 and quadruple by 2050. United Airlines lost more than $90 million in revenue from delayed and cancelled flights because of Hurricane Sandy, and climate change will make similar extreme weather events more common while a recent Nature study shows that climate change will cause a significant increase in costly turbulence.
