Reclaiming the Moral High Ground (Epstein’s new energy primer) — MasterResource
Epstein’s main message is that environmentalists have “put forward the myth that a better environment means ‘saving’ the planet from human industry,” whereas in fact humans who have been lucky enough to join the international division of labor and benefit from ever greater energy use have increasingly insulated themselves from bad weather, diseases and food shortages.

In other words, the story told by long-term trends runs directly counter to the dominant green narrative.

it was the unevaluated Soccket, a soccer ball housing a small kinetic generator that charges a lamp, which got the photo-op and the White House twitter feed love.
Storm warning: Climate change to spawn more hurricanes | The Oshkosh Northwestern |
The world could see as many as 20 additional hurricanes and tropical storms each year by the end of the century because of climate change, says a study out today.

The study was published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), written by top climate researcher Kerry Emanuel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
[Pielke Jr] says the increases predicted in Emanuel's study are projected over a century into the future. However, "over the past century, no such increase in frequency or intensity has been observed (in the U.S. or globally) and in fact, the U.S. is currently in the midst of the longest stretch with no Category 3+ hurricane landfall since at least 1900."
