John Kerry on Tuesday called off the vultures swooping in on comprehensive climate and energy legislation, arguing that senators are closer than ever to sealing a deal.

"We think the work going on on the Hill is going at a nice speed, and we are going to continue to work with those folks," said Browner.

She also downplayed accusations that Obama and his administration have not done enough to prioritize climate and energy legislation. "In virtually every public appearance of the president he mentions these issues, he calls on Congress to do this," said Browner. "I think we have been abundantly clear about our desire for comprehensive legislation."  [Note that in his weekly address, Obama has only failed to mention global warming in thirty of the last thirty-two weeks.]

WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Max Baucus, whose committee oversees aspects of climate control legislation, said on Monday there did not appear to be momentum yet for passing a bill.

"If you actually read the tea leaves...it looks like it's not getting a head of steam," Baucus told Reuters during a short interview.

At the EPW Senate hearing, Senator Merkley stressed the importance of creating clean energy jobs here in America, rather than spending billions overseas on foreign oil.   [Not much emphasis these days on saving our grandchildren from CO2-induced hellfire.]
