Now that the bird has been spotted with scientific certainty in Arkansas, biologists are taking a closer look at reports from other areas—from Texas to Florida—where rumors persist about the bird’s survival.

Is this La La land, it seems that National Audubon (sic), National Geographic, US FWS, and Nature Conservancy are all part of the Cornell fantasy land or dare I say Twilight Zone.
By the way, is it me, or $2.1 million Federal dollars oin FY 07 to search for a fantasy bird a bit ridiculous. Couldn't we buy some habitat with that money?
In one respect, this isn't quite like the Cold Fusion debacle. The fact that only other physicists could judge the worthiness of the Cold Fusion debate more or less limited the debacle to just research labs around the world. The general public were just bystanders.
But here even though the majority of scientists (Sibley, Robbins, Jackson, Prum et al) have determined that there is no proof that the IBWO still exists, it doesn't matter as much to the fate of the search as it did with Cold Fusion.
The public in the form of conservation organizations and environmental journals are still allowed to believe in the impossible.
I think the net effect will be a continuation of this roller coaster ride for a while longer. They even want to double fed dollars for the search next year!
So strap in boy and girls, the ride isn't over yet.
I found this article at Birdwatchers Digest.com.

Really sums up the problem for Dr. Fitzpatrick et al. Written in 2003 also! Very prophetic.
The grammar is awful in this article, too. How many run-on sentences can he write? If the author is their "senior editor", then the junior writers must be terrible.
