Now this is where it gets sticky, and why us skeptics can be a bit harsh. I don't know the particulars of this case, but here is how it could be fine or really bad.

IF Hill told these people that the kent-like calls are interesting to him BUT do not match any known IBWO call, and that there are Blue Jays in the area, that's fine.

IF Hill told these people that he recorded what he feels are double raps BUT that CLO listened to them and found none compelling, that's fine.

IF Hill told these people that they had multiple sightings BUT that each was brief and missing field marks, and that good birders have known for decades that these types of sightings are highly error prone, that's fine.

IF Hill told them he had a hypothesis (not theory) about bark adhesion BUT that he had no baseline data to back it up, that's fine.

If, however, he did not clearly state the caveats to his evidence, he is being intellectual dishonest. Before you take people's money, you need to present all the facts, not just the ones you personally find intriguing. Only then can they make an informed decision.

Disney Wildlife loves Mickey Mouse operations. And when asking them for funds it doesn't even hurt to appear to be Goofy.

Florida Ornithological Society Newsletter
http://www.fosbirds.org/newsletter/Volume33-1.php

"Audubon of Florida announced in December it was contributing $15,000 to support efforts beginning this month to find additional evidence of the existence of Ivory-billed Woodpeckers in the Chocktawatchee River Basin. Audubon officials are also working to raise an additional $15,000 from partners including St. Joe Company, Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund and Apalachee Audubon Society...Dr. Hill said Audubon’s contribution provided much-needed funds for the search, but estimated the effort will require an additional $50,000 to complete the planned field work that will extend into May."

How much did these institutions donate to the Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow?

Any big donations for cowbird removal in BWVI habitat?
