I wonder how much information like this, data that contradict the existence of IBWO, is not published. Will Auburn publish this when talking about "interesting" cavities? Have they found PIWO scaling tightly adhered bark? Have "kent-like" calls been heard and proven to be non-IBWO?

To their credit, Cornell seems to have been a bit better about reporting this type of thing in the past year. But Fitzpatrick clinging to the Luneau video is pretty pathetic.

"...and now have a large amount of evidence, including 14 sightings by trained ornithologists, that a population of Ivory-bills may exist in the swamps surrounding the Choctawhatchee..."

The important words, of course, are "evidence" and "may". How could a "large amount of evidence" that includes 14 sightings not result in a "does exist" rather than a "may". Only if the "evidence" is not really evidence. And what would that large amount of evidence be? Random noises, interesting cavities, etc?

And of course her site asks that people donate funds as a result of her belief in the "evidence". What is with this "I believe in IBWO so please send me money" syndrome. Is there some link between having low standards of evidence and greed?
