The bears were added because, if the global warming computer projections of our weather 50 to 100 years in the future turn out to be correct -- which they've never been so far -- the loss of polar sea ice (currently at its highest level ever recorded because of back-to-back record-cold winters) potentially could cause the bears to drown, like the ones former Vice President Al Gore lied about and did computer-generated cartoons of in his famous documentary.
