North Dakota - Hettinger dips to 28
Midweek chill nearly sets record for Wichita | Kansas.com
It pretty much ended the corn growing season around Hettinger.
While ears could still mature a little if the corn stalks didn’t freeze, the crop wasn’t very far along, Eriksmoen said.
It was so cold in the Wichita area that forecasters were using terms such as "record low" and "wind chill."
In early September.
"It's cold out there," admitted Leon Wasinger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita.
So cold, in fact, that Wichita just missed setting a record for lowest high temperature on Sept. 3. The record is 63, set in 1967.
Wednesday's high reached 64 -- though it didn't feel that warm thanks to a northerly wind that at times gusted above 30 mph. "It was a little wind chill," Wasinger said.
The high was more than 20 degrees below normal for this time of year, he said.
