Carolina Beach man creates first green cab in North Carolina
"It's a little slower, a little breezier, but it's a little more fun," says Rando Purdy the owner of the golf cart.
He admits being the first to put a meter in a golf cart was a bumpy road. He says he had to fill out a lot of paper work and the insurance policy was just the beginning. Purdy says he's not an environmentalist, just a beach lover.
"You're not burning any fossil fuels. You're not polluting it's all electric," says Purdy.
Purdy can only drive on roads where the speed limit is below thirty-five miles per hour. At the next town council meeting Aldermen will consider adopting an ordinance that would make it easier for people to drive golf carts.
Purdy is also preparing for the cold weather that's on the way with some added luxuries to protect his customers like blankets and a plastic covering.
