UK: "Saving" fossil fuel

Hampshire couple recycle rubbish to pay for honeymoon | Recycle.co.uk
John Till is a 31-year-old railways communications manager, who said that he and his wife came up with the idea when they saw the recycling bank when buying petrol on a visit to the supermarket.

The Petersfield couple braved the cold weather, going out most nights in the early spring to collect items that others had discarded.

After completing their nightly collecting, the Tills drove to the Havant Tesco to turn the goods in for points.

Ann Till, 24, is a navigation officer in the merchant navy, who noted that on some evenings they would post as many as 600 items into the machine – taking hours to put the things through the machine’s slot.

She explained that they cut cans in half to earn maximum points, and also picked up leftovers from the recycling of other people.

The couple converted enough points for their honeymoon by May, and married in August. After the wedding, they sailed on the Queen Mary 2 to New York, and traveled to Denver and Nashville before flying home from Atlanta – on business class.
