Palmer is a spokesperson for the Climate Project, an initiative that grew out of Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth. He's travelled around the country delivering Gore's message.

Palmer figures he's talked to 7,000 people, in groups from six to 600. He figures, too, that he's succeeded in delivering that message, and that it's time to move on.

"We're past spending a whole evening explaining what global warming is or that it's for real," he told the small group assembled at John F. Ross high school. "We know the inconvenient truth message. . . . We can't spend all our time trying to convince those last few people to come along with us in our journey."
