Schaeff and other Michigan snowsports enthusiasts got an early Christmas present when a cold snap settled over the region in mid-November, coaxing many local ski resorts to open two to three weeks ahead of schedule. The colder-than-usual temperatures and snowfall that hit local slopes are expected to continue into the first week or two of December and should remain that way the entire winter, according to the National Weather Service, providing Michigan ski areas with an extra flurry of business.
