Rudd rides high but wears out weary staffers | The Australian
ON the basis of all recent published polls, voters are very happy with the Government, rating Kevin Rudd as the most popular prime minister. But there is another set of numbers that suggests there is deep unhappiness, if not dysfunction, within the Government.
These figures relate to staff in ministerial offices, the people who actually make the Government work.
...
Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard had a 33 per cent staff turnover rate in her first 10 months. Think about that: a ratio of one in three. For Health Minister Nicola Roxon, the comparable figure is 27 per cent. And for Climate Change Minister Penny Wong, the number is a truly worrying 50 per cent.
The point here is that the Government is obviously no bunch of happy campers. To the contrary. The relentless pace at which Rudd is driving his team is also clearly driving key people away. And in the medium to long term, this is not a good thing for the Government or the country.
