Yale "Conference of Governors" on global warming is a massive flop

Only a lonely quartet of governors showed up (and even Arnold Schwarzenegger was late):
Joining Rell and Schwarzenegger in signing the declaration on the stage in Woolsey Hall were Govs. Jon Corzine of New Jersey and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.
Note that all 50 governors were invited, and careful weasel wording earlier this week suggested that as many as 10 governors would participate.

This event was supposed to convince us that U.S. state governors care deeply about global warming; to any thinking person, this event indicates just the opposite.

"I wasn't going to let a grouchy ex-veep ruin my day"

A bit about Gore's stop in Nashville yesterday is here.

If Gore is grouchy these days, one factor may be the abysmal (from his perspective) polling results that continue to roll in, even after his $300 million ad campaign kickoff.

Yet another poll shows Americans moving further away from Gore's alarmism

From this page:
These are some of the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of 2,529 U.S. adults surveyed online between April 7 and 15, 2008 by Harris Interactive®.

Where there has been a change is in feelings towards the amount of the increase in temperatures. Last year half (50%) of those who believe humans are contributing to an increase in temperatures characterized that increase as substantial; this year 40 percent say it is substantial. Just under this (38%) believe the change is moderate, while one-third (33%) said it was moderate last year. One in five (18%) say the increase is slight, while 14 percent said slight last year.

The impact of global warming is not one that people believe will be a threat to them or their families soon. Three in ten (30%) Americans believe global warming will present a threat to them and their families within their lifetime while 39 percent believe it will not and almost one-third (31%) are not sure. Last year, over one-third (36%) believed it would be a threat within their lifetime while 41 percent said it would not and one-quarter (24%) were not sure.

Why is it so tough to debate the climate realists?

From an alarmist here:
In short, and I am sorry to say it, anti-greens (Reds, as we call them) appear to be more willing to comment, more structured, more able to quote peer reviewed research, more apparently rational and apparently wider read and better informed.

Al Gore's priorities

Here are the first two paragraphs from "Al's Bio" on his own web site:
Former Vice President Al Gore is cofounder and Chairman of Generation Investment Management, a firm that is focused on a new approach to Sustainable Investing.

Gore is also cofounder and Chairman of Current TV, an independently owned cable and satellite television network for young people based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism. A member of the Board of Directors of Apple Computer, Inc. and a Senior Advisor to Google, Inc. Gore is also Visiting Professor at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

"tent time is the best part of the day"

In his quest to convince us that the planet is dangerously overheating, Sam Branson is continuing to encounter "bitter" cold.

As "spring" wears on, they're continuing their policy of seldom mentioning actual temperatures, but on April 15, they gave us an estimated temperature of -31 F (about an even 100 degrees under "room temperature").

Interesting poll results

I think that American politicians should take a very serious look at polls like the one above and many others here.

It should be abundantly clear that most Americans are not buying into Gore's scam. Voters will not react well to painful and/or expensive global warming legislation.

Speaking of Gore at EPFL...

From this post:
He came and presented at EPFL on Tuesday. I couldn't go because of an important meeting and most of my fellow PhD students in the Lab despise the man, the few that did go said it was quite interesting. Being a technical university there were quite a few experts in different fields relating to climate science and Mr Gore was asked man[y] interesting questions which he failed to answer with any content.

What would Andy Revkin say?

Check out the remarkable press release here, entitled "EPFL Research Day 2008, in the presence of Al Gore".

Excerpt:
...the announcement of the day comes from Thierry Lombard, with the creation of a Chair in sustainable development at EPFL. Lombard, Senior Partner at Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie, outlined the objectives of this new research and teaching position: “This Chair, which is part of an ongoing partnership between Generation Investment Management and Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie , will be headed by an exceptional young scientist, whose task will be the following: to establish a pertinent link between our understanding of environmental phenomena and human behavior in a way that will significantly influence the academic and scientific community. This new professor and his or her team will engage not only in original research but also in teaching activities aimed at students and decision-makers.”
So a for-profit outfit called Generation Investment Management (GIM) is helping to set up a climate alarmist Chair at a school. Part of this person's stated mission is to influence decision-makers in a way that will create wealth at GIM, whose chairman is Al Gore.

As far as I can tell, the mainstream media finds this whole situation completely unworthy of comment.

But let's say Vice President Dick Cheney (after leaving office) became chairman of a fossil fuel company. Further, let's say this company tried to set up an academic Chair whose stated mission included influencing decision-makers to avoid climate alarmism.

Would Andy Revkin or any other mainstream journalist find this Cheney situation worthy of any comment or criticism?

Journalist Gelbspan addresses "reality" of climate change

Here.

Excerpts:
“We are standing at the threshold of runaway climate change,” Gelbspan remarked at the beginning of his speech. In order to effectively mobilize public support, Gelbspan explained, the press must effectively inform the public of the reality of global warming. However, “the carbon lobby has mounted a successful campaign of deception and misinformation,” he said.
...
Embarking on a transition from fossil fuel to clean energy will create a tremendous number of new jobs in developing countries, Gelbspan explained, thereby helping to create “a far more equitable, secure, and prosperous world.”

Oregon Secretary of State Presents 'Global Warming and its Impact on Oregon'

From this page:
Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, who completed a rigorous training program led by former Vice President Al Gore, will give a free presentation about issues and solutions surrounding global warming Monday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Auditorium at Willamette University.

Bradbury was part of a group of 50 individuals chosen to receive intensive training by Gore and a team of renowned scientists about global warming issues. Each received technical training to become experienced presenters of a version of Gore’s computer-based slide show, which became the basis of his best-selling book and documentary film, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

His Willamette visit is sponsored by Associated Students of Willamette University, Willamette Events Board and The New York Times.

Opposition to Al Gore's visit in Buenos Aires

Check out this May '07 letter from Argentina.

Excerpt:
If Al Gore is really worried about the environment, he should take the issue seriously and work towards a moratorium against proposals to use agrofuels as a replacement for fossil fuels. He should listen to the voices of the people who live in the countries where the raw materials are produced and who have suffered because of the methods used to produce agrofuels . Al Gore should be realistic, re-read the letter we sent him and acknowledge that there is no way of producing sustainable or responsible agrofuels in order to maintain to the level of energy squandering which is taking place in the "developed" world.

We fear that the campaigns that have been initiated in order to provide fuel for motor cars at the cost of our agriculture will increase poverty and hunger, will increase the environmental crisis, and deepen the current model of economic dependency in Argentina. On the international level, this campaign, which almost all local politicians are supporting through their irresponsibility and complicity, carries with it the process of advancement of global capitalism, in which the agro- and biotechnology industries, the motor and oil industries unite and mould the planet to their will, turning climate change and the ecological catastrophes into a new and formidable business as a means towards the eventual appropriation of total control.

Central Plank Of Global Warming Alarmism Discredited

Historically, we are currently living in a frigid "Ice House" compared to the "Hot House" endured by our predecessors the dinosaurs, who roamed the earth when the poles were covered by lush forests.

But all this matters little to the demagogues of a giant sprawling cash cow whose continued funding relies on tying everything that happens to man-made global warming and that "evil" life-giving gas, carbon dioxide.

The real environmental issues - GM frankenstein food, deforestation and toxic waste dumping amongst others, will continue to be neglected as we are led on a merry dance by the climate change cultists - but as the hard evidence increasingly belies the hoax that they have foisted upon us, their credibility and influence will continue to wane.

So, with only a few weeks left in the session, what have legislators done to promote smart energy use? Not nearly enough.

Culver’s “25 percent by 2025” target for renewable energy died in March. Twenty-eight states have adopted renewable-energy standards, many of them more aggressive than Iowa’s, Pew Center data show.
And the recommendations to ramp up utilities’ energy-efficiency efforts ran into a buzz saw of opposition from all involved.

Gore jets off to Iceland

Here.

Note that this article gives some space to the skeptics:
Grímsson described Gore as a man who always sought the truth, though despite his scientifically-backed arguments, Gore certainly has his critics. Some argue that he has exaggerated some of the scientific facts that he often refers to in his presentations.

Icelandic journalist Audunn Arnórsson wrote an opinion piece on news website visir.is, in reference to Al Gore’s efforts, that alarmism should be avoided and that a balanced approach to climate issues should rather be applied.

Former British Chancellor of the Exchequer (Secretary of the Treasury) and fierce climate-change-theory critic Nigel Lawson is also skeptical of Gore’s message.

In an interview with state-run television station RÚV, following Gore’s lecture in Iceland, Lawson said that he does not believe that the issue of climate change is being “sufficiently, rationally discussed and argued about” and that environmentalism had become “almost a new religion.”

Al Gore is preaching a gospel which is false—worse—damaging,” Lawson told RÚV, adding that a High Court judge in the UK found “eleven major errors” in Gore’s documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
