Balog acknowledges that we are living through a decisive moment in geological time.

But it is not Armageddon that motivates the 56-year-old Balog. It is his children, especially his 7-year-old son.

“If I live another 30 years they are going to be saying to me, ‘What were you guys thinking about in 2008? Was anybody paying attention? How could you have missed this? How could you have been so muddled by the distortions of propaganda?
