Wicked weather leaves Manitoba icy and cold
WINNIPEG -- A winter storm turned roads and highways into a treacherous maze of skating rinks across the province Saturday while forecasters warned the next wave of weather is going to be even worse.
Environment Canada issued a weather warning for those in southern Manitoba, including Brandon but excluding Winnipeg, calling for "extreme" wind chills that will make it feel as if the temperature is somewhere between -40 and -45 C. The bitter cold comes on the heels of a trough of low pressure that dumped between 10 and 25 centimetres of snow on some communities.
There were nearly 30 automobile collisions from Friday evening to Saturday evening, nearly half of which were weather-related.
