O'Malley Again Pushes Climate Change Legislation - Maryland
After introducing environmental officials and the bill's legislative co-sponsors, House Majority Leader Kumar Barve (D-Montgomery) and Sen. Paul Pinsky (D-Prince George's), O'Malley introduced labor leaders. They had vigorously opposed the bill last year on the grounds that the extra costs for manufacturers would cost the steel industry jobs.

But now the state's small manufacturing sector would be exempt from the bill until at least 2016, and the steelworkers union is supporting it.

Cuntapay said the DPWH will meet with outdoor advertisers this week to discuss the order’s implementation.

“If they have violent reactions, then we will temper it because this has something to do with climate change. This concerns all of us so it is high time that we put a stop to the installation of spotlights since these have carbon effects on our atmosphere,” he said.
Orlando Sentinel - Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp's greenhouse gas emissions. by
Given that Gov. Charlie Crist has made global warming a cornerstone of his administration, let's see how much his Lt. Gov. is heating up the planet by jetting around the state at taxpayer expense.

I found a web site that calculated the carbon emission of a small jet at about 3.8 pounds of carbon per kilometer. I'll roughly calculate that it is a 300 mile one-way flight from Tallahassee to Fort Myers, Kottkamp's home, which is equal to 500 km.

Kottkamp has made 365 flights. So this comes out to about 693,500 pounds of carbon to shuttle Kottcamp around. Seventy of these flights were empty, meaning the plane was going to fetch Kottkamp. Those flights released 79.800 pounds of carbon.

Now, it seems if Charlie was so hell-bent on protecting the planet, he might have his Lt. Gov. drive to Fort Myers in a Civic or, better yet, fly coach.
