Conversations with Daschle: Barack Obama on Energy and Climate Change

Mr. Daschle, who lost his Senate seat in 2004, managed to land on his feet and find lucrative ways to peddle the influence he had spent years accumulating. One way was to become founding chairman of a new investment firm founded by Democratic donor and media mogul Leo Hindery. One of the perks of that job was a Cadillac limousine and a driver on call at all times. Mr. Daschle says that he had become accustomed to having a car and driver as minority leader, so it just didn't occur to him that this should be reported as income, on which he should pay taxes.

Gee whiz, don't all prairie populists have limousines and drivers at their disposal?
