Fifth explosion rocks Mount Redoubt volcano: Volcanoes | adn.com
An erupting Mount Redoubt exploded again this morning at 4:31 a.m. -- its fifth and strongest discharge yet -- sending an ash cloud to new heights, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reported.

Ash has now been detected at an elevation of 60,000 feet above sea level, the National Weather Service reported.
Green News: Carbon Credit [Scam] Auction Nets $117 Million - 247 Wall Street
The ten northeastern states that comprise the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) raised more than $117 million in its third auction of carbon emission allowances for the 2009-2012 time period. More than 31.5 million allowances were sold (one allowance (credit) permits the holder to emit one ton of carbon annually). The clearing price equaled $3.51/credit. So far, the three auctions have yielded about $263 million.

The economic stimulus bill recently enacted by Congress assumes that carbon credits will sell for $40-$50 apiece, and raise billions of dollars to offset taxpayers’ contributions to the economic recovery package. It appears that the price of carbon credits still has some ways to go.

Though Hansen said he favors "peaceful actions that attempt to draw society's attention to the issue," there is no shortage of fanatic environmentalists who will read the coded message — as Hansen is hoping — and do something reckless.

Having already torched car dealerships, sabotaged oil and gas wells, ambushed a coal train and trashed power plants, eco-terrorists have demonstrated a disregard for law and a taste for violence.

Hansen would deny he is trying to use mob rule or descend into fascism to effect the societal changes he seeks to curb global warming. But what other alternative does he have?
