Romm rages, rages against the dying of the climate scam

It is one thing for the puff-piece profilers at the NYT magazine to give the eccentric Dr. Dyson a forum and a free pass to say whatever anti-scientific nonsense comes into his head at the moment — but if the top climate science reporter for the entire New York Times thinks “Dyson may be right,” then may be the newspaper should simply dump their entire climate-reporting staff and start from scratch.

Note to Andy: You have simply gone too on this one. I call on you to retract that statement.

Australia and New Zealand are to explore the harmonisation of their respective emissions trading schemes.

Two views are possible about the New Zealand Government's motives in this. The generous view is that it wants to improve the local scheme and further the cause of a Single Economic Market with Australia.

The cynical view is that it wants to dilute and delay the scheme.

No Right Turn: Climate change: "harmonization"

...Which means that "harmonization" for us means surrender: scrapping our own ETS and joining their one as a giant trans-Tasman market. Our polluters will be happy with that, as it gives them both a further delay and a whole new bunch of politicians to lobby and special plead at (as if the Australian ETS isn't bad enough already). It is also likely to mean lower joint targets, as the Australians are fundamentally uncommitted to serious action on climate change.

So, even when taken seriously, "harmonization" is simply a stalking horse for inaction - inaction we cannot afford.
