Thornley accused of lying over company link | theage.com.au

FORMER Labor MP Evan Thornley has been accused of lying about his involvement with an electric car company he quit State Parliament to join.

Since leaving politics in December to become Australian chief executive of the international company, Better Place, Mr Thornley has repeatedly denied playing a part in Government dealings to bring it to Australia.

But documents obtained by the Opposition under freedom-of-information laws show Mr Thornley and Better Place met before September 4, and described him as a parliamentary secretary.

But workers union national secretary Paul Howes said Professor Garnaut was "bashing" emissions-intensive, trade-exposed industries that needed help to change to the new international carbon trading system.

"The professor's speech to the Greenhouse 2009 conference in Perth is an example of an ego gone mad," Mr Howes said.
