It's akin to what happened to the phrase, "global warming," which became invidious because of the link between environmentalists and judicial activism and the demand for massive, publically financed energy and agricultural reform based on flimsy evidence. So, for public consumption, "climate change" has become the substitute.
Carbon regulation is a disaster waiting to happen. The potential for economic harm, for corruption and gaming the system, and for governmental intrusion into our homes and offices should not be underestimated. So I'm always pleased to see voices opposing cap-and-trade. Here are a couple of snippets from this week that do just that...New Zealanders rejoice: Only about half a billion dollars to be blown on climate fraud!
An update on New Zealand's carbon-credit liability, to be released tomorrow, is expected to show significant changes.
In May Treasury said a $1 billion projected carbon deficit had halved to $481 million, and NZPA understands it has continued to improve.
It is an estimate of how much New Zealand would have to pay for carbon credits if climate change emissions are not reduced to levels agreed in the Kyoto Protocol, or offset by tree plantings.
