Smart energy meters for all UK homes

Dr. Rees recognizes there is enormous resistance to the kind of change he advocates, but says it's time people woke up to the "potentially dire crisis" unfolding on the planet.

And arguing against change because it might hurt the economy is illogical, he says.

"Politicians and ordinary citizens fear that policies that would effectively mitigate ecological degradation would slow economic growth," he writes. "However ... the consequences of climate change and ecosystems' collapse themselves will not only slow growth, but also could well destroy the economy."

Only Dr. Rees, the heretic, is bold enough to go there. But he was alone before, when he conceived the ecological footprint concept. Now he's telling us where all those footprints are leading.
