Kevin Grandia | Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman Believes in Global Cooling
Bob Stallman, head of the American Farm Bureau Federation, has declared that the earth is cooling in testimony Tuesday before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. So it must be true.Kevin Grandia | Sarah Palin Wants to Be Poster Child of Anti-Science and GOP Fear Mongering
...
He has a good name for the cause, eh? Stallman? It’s par for the course for the Farm Bureau to deny, delay and attempt to kill any action on climate change, despite the risk to farmers of ignoring the issue.
...
...Missing entirely from Stallman’s testimony was any mention of the many significant challenges farmers will face if we FAIL to address climate change. Droughts, torrential rains and storms are just a few examples of global warming consequences that will negatively affect agriculture. Farmers could pay a steep price for the stall-and-kill lobbying efforts of the Farm Bureau if Congress fails to pass strong, science-based legislation to combat climate change.
Palin clearly wants to be relevant in her forthcoming post-resignation days, and what better way than by declaring herself the lead spokesperson attacking efforts to stop climate change? Is the organic movement missing a big opportunity on climate change?
In true GOP fashion, Palin seeks to put the fear of God and all things scary into readers minds, foretelling an apocalyptic future for any who subscribe to the idea that we need to curb carbon emissions to save the climate and protect our economy from carbon dependence.
So please put away those hair shirts and let’s concentrate on showing that organics are a promising way to confront climate change.AEI - Waxman-Markey: An Exercise in Unreality
The legislation enumerates six hundred tasks the EPA must perform and gives other agencies significant administrative roles.
...
Waxman-Markey is a bundle of contradictions. It seeks to make carbon energy more expensive but does not ask consumers to pay higher energy prices--at least for the first decade of its operation.
