Die Klimazwiebel: climate reconstructions and future climate projections
Projection of future climate change are basely almost exclusively on the results of simulations with climate models. Climate models do not include or use any information derived from proxy data. They are not calibrated, or their skill is scored, against past climate reconstructions. The consequence of this simple fact is that revisions of the reconstructions of past climates due to the new data or to the application of new statistical reconstruction methods do not require any revision of future climate change projections. In this sense the world of climate models and the world of proxy-based reconstructions are truly independent.
China’s plan?: Burn coal to make renewables for us | CEJournal
Another possibility is that China wants to exploit its coal reserves to the greatest extent possible to continue on its path to global industrial primacy.  [If they believed in the global warming hoax, why would they do this?]
Climate wars
As I have mentioned frequently, this will be a 30-year struggle, in part because I think that's how long it will take to settle the science, but in part because a generation of scientists, businessmen and politicians need to pass from the world stage in order for accommodation to be reached, in accordance with Planck's Principle, and most of the people blocking progress are still disturbingly young.

The politicians were nestled all snug in their scam,
While mountains of greenbacks piled up from the sham.

Global warming skepticism is fueled by public relations, author says / The Christian Science Monitor - CSMonitor.com
In the book 'Climate Cover-Up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming,' James Hoggan says the campaign to create skepticism about climate change is 'by far and away the biggest public relations campaign that I've ever seen.'
Greener De-icing « Climate Progress
The winter season means holidays, vacations, and family time, but it also means the arrival of something else: snow. It may be beautiful as it’s falling, but dealing with the aftermath of a large snowstorm can be hard work. Ice and melting snow on sidewalks and streets creates hazardous conditions, but that doesn’t mean clearing it has to be harmful to the environment.

Papers which document human climate forcings other than CO2 continue to be published.

Regarding why China would follow the strategy I hypothesized if they believed in the global warming "hoax":

It really makes no difference. Put yourself in the position of a totalitarian Chinese leadership. What do you care if the Maldivians and the Bangladeshis drown? (Actually, Bangladeshis drowning probably is good from your perspective, because it will be a catastrophe for India.) And if you get rich enough, you probably can convince yourself that you can wall off Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc. from sea level rise.

My guess, though, is that that they probably believe global warming is real, but not terribly pressing yet, and that they will therefore have time to deal with it — after they've burned all their coal and established global economic and geopolitical primacy.

Not a comforting picture, no matter what you think about global warming.
