A cold wave is forcing air from the Arctic Circle right into the heart of the United States, supporting crude oil price increases, which could climb as temperatures plummet.

"A major arctic wave is set to hit the country now and could last into February," said AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist Jim Andrews.

The cold pattern is not expected to break anytime soon, and AccuWeather.com meteorologists are forecasting bitterly cold temperatures for the Plains as well.

The Deep South could also endure record freezing temperatures next week. Frost as far south as central Florida can be expected.
Andrews said the weather pattern around Greenland is responsible for the cold burst, encompassing a massive portion of the United States and will continue to affect Europe.
