Fidel Castro warns of aftermath of climate change
Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro warned of the aftermath of uncontrollable climate change and the side effect of scientific progress in an article published on Monday.

He also described the role of U.S. President Barack Obama at the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen as “disappointing” and a “painful deception” to the public.

Mr. Castro said global warming will lead to the rise of sea levels, the decrease of drinkable water and arable land. It will also result in the pollution of oceans and extinction of many species in a few decades.

Politics aside, it's past time that Congress dealt with climate change. Businesses face stifling uncertainty about the shape of inevitable climate legislation. World leaders wonder when America will finally lead on global warming. And every year Congress waits to legislate, adequately curbing emissions will get harder and more expensive. Any comprehensive climate bill will require the support of at least a few Republicans to pass. We hope Mr. Graham and his Democratic partners find a way not to miss this opportunity.

Obama’s private visit to the POET ethanol plant outside of Macon on Wednesday will be his first to such a facility as president. He did visit the now-bankrupt VeraSun plant in Charles City, Iowa, when he as a presidential candidate.

President Obama was in New York and believe it or not, he had to take a car to get to and from where he was going. So, in order to protect the president from the possibility of a rogue pipe bomb, the New York Police Department took bolt cutters to the locks of hundreds of bike locks and hauled off the bikes.

They didn’t bother to inform the owners they were coming.
