WASHINGTON — Overwhelmed and saddened by the gargantuan size of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico?

A little mathematical context to the spill size can put the environmental catastrophe in perspective. Viewing it through some lenses, it isn't that huge.

Let’s take his word for it. So what do we do now? Lobbying governments on global warming seems a sensible response to a looming apocalypse, but no species wants to spend its final 100 years hassling politicians.
