And finally the inevitable sceptic/denier question. I'd growled at the BBC researcher earlier in the day when he was doing the rehearsal. Then, he put the question in terms of something like "it must be hard being a denier". I think he was slightly taken aback when I (very gently) put him right on his terminology. So when it came to the question at the end, they had everything fixed and just asked whether I acknowledged that mankind was affecting the climate. This again is a pretty easy question, because of course mankind has always affected the climate. If I had my time over again, I would have made this point more clearly. I don't think you can get away from the radiative physics arguments for AGW. It seems likely to me that it has some effect, but as I tried to make clear in my 10 secs, we just don't know how big.Solar flares are teleconnected to earthly radioactive decay | Watts Up With That?
When researchers found an unusual linkage between solar flares and the inner life of radioactive elements on Earth, it touched off a scientific detective investigation that could end up protecting the lives of space-walking astronauts and maybe rewriting some of the assumptions of physics.James Cameron should have debated Marc Morano - National environmental policy | Examiner.com
But strategically, refusing to debate just adds to the suspicion of so many who think there is no 'there' there when it comes to climate science. It's more of the same--every time a mole gets whacked--Polar bears are not threatened, the Himalayan glaciers are not disappearing, rainforests are actually robust, hurricanes are not happening more frequently--another 'mole' appears. Phytoplanckton is threatened by global warming! And the science is always preached rather than presented.Rent Seeking with Global Warming: From Enron to California AB 32 — MasterResource
Romm refused to debate Roger Pielke Jr., who isn't even a skeptic, despite a $10,000 offer to charity from an Internet comenter. So it's clear what advice he would give Cameron.
The mainstream media has perpetuated a misperception that the Proposition 23 to suspend AB 32 is the work of, and funded by, sinsiter out-of-stater parties. That’s neither a real issue (what happens in California affects everybody) nor factually correct.
