Boulder going all out for '350' party to combat climate change - Colorado Daily
An eight-foot tall polar bear will be marched through the streets of Boulder next Sunday. In front of it, a torch from the Dalai Lama.

Both bear and torch will be leading the youth "I Matter March," one of several events planned for Boulder's participation in this year's 350 Global Work Party to combat climate change.

The level of carbon dioxide deemed acceptable in the atmosphere by scientists, including NASA's James Hansen, is 350 parts per million. This number inspired the first 350 event held last year, as the current level of carbon dioxide is at 392 ppm and rising.

More than 40 workshops, a youth march, midday rally, and evening "carrot mob" party at the St Julien are planned. Half of the proceeds from food and drink sales at the "carrot mob" will go toward making the hotel more carbon neutral in the future.

"The idea behind 'carrot mobbing' is that instead of boycotting a bad business we are 'carrot mobbing' a good business, a business that is trying to be sustainable," Parkin said.

"The kids are so successful at touching the hearts of Boulder," said Tamara Roske, executive director of Earth Guardians. "Their message is 'You are going to be gone, but we are going to have to clean up the mess.'"
