Companies like PepsiCo and Walmart, like all good liberals, are prepared to push for global warming "solutions" only so far as it's painless for them. But if they have to go to investors with plans to do things like contributing to a Global Climate Fund, they'd rather pressure the U.S. government to make American taxpayers pay for it. The Dalai Lama argued that the political agenda should be sidelined for five to ten years and the international community should shift its focus to climate change on the Tibetan plateau. Melting glaciers, deforestation, and increasingly polluted water from mining projects were problems that "cannot wait." The Dalai Lama criticized China's energy policy, alleging that dam construction in Kham and Amdo have displaced thousands of Tibetans and left temples and monasteries underwater. India's association and close coordination of its climate negotiating position with the Basic Group of nations, comprised of Brazil, South Africa, India, and China, indicates India is beginning to understand it must address the climate issue not as a poor developing nation but rather as the major economy it has become.
