Frost, potential flooding challenge Utah farmers - ABC 4.com - Salt Lake City, Utah News
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Cold weather and potential flooding are challenging farmers in northern Utah this year.
The National Agriculture Statistics Service reports farmers in Box Elder County are facing problems getting crops in the ground due to the high moisture levels in the soil, which has delayed the planting of onions and barley. In parts of the county, winter wheat has been impacted by snow mold, a type of fungi that thrives in moist conditions.
Cache, Millard, Utah and Morgan Counties have also been affected by frost, snow and cold weather conditions that have prevented the planting of onions and damaged fruit trees.
