MARK COLVIN: Carbon tax dominated question time in Canberra today, and the Opposition appeared to have taken a concerted decision to concentrate their fire on Julia Gillard. In particular, Coalition MPs tried to embarrass Julia Gillard over modelling released in Victoria today. It claimed that the tax would reduce jobs growth by more than 24,000 in 2015, costing that state's economy $2.8 billion.
But Ms Gillard says the modelling missed out a crucial bit of information, namely that it failed to factor in any of the billions of dollars to be handed out in compensation.
It's been the coldest "summer" since 1987.
