Warmist Barry Heimlich: Deniers are a diminishing presence at my talks. Maybe the strength of his arguments "simply scare the skeptics into silence"

Sea levels will rise, washing away climate deniers - Fred Grimm - MiamiHerald.com
The study from FAU’s Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions, adding to an overwhelming scientific consensus about the disastrous effects of global warming, and along with growing hard evidence that temperature changes are already altering the environment, ought to have sent tremors through the halls of government.

Except it didn’t.
...
And yet, Wanless lamented, “The population and many politicians seem to be grabbing at whatever denial statements are tossed out. Seems a bit like smoker and alcohol addiction.”
...
Barry N. Heimlich, lead researcher on the FAU study, suggested Friday that the media has contributed to the gulf between science and the public. “By giving equal credence to positions that are not well supported by science, the media presents a confusing and distorted picture to the public,” he said.
...
Heimlich insisted that in the hundreds of talks he has given across the region, from schools to political groups to civic organizations, deniers are a diminishing presence. It could be that the utter specifics that Heimlich and his researchers have accumulated simply scare the skeptics into silence. Daunting facts just tumbled out of his mouth: add another six inches to the sea level, he said, and 15 of Miami-Dade’s 28 flood-gate structures lose their ability to drain the region. Those six inches are an imminent inevitablity.

God got rid of the sin of the world by getting rid of the sinners in the world. The water of the flood washed away the sin of the world by washing away the sinners. That’s a very effective way of getting rid of sin, don’t you think?

Tom, Thanks for helping raise awareness by highlighting this material. It's getting harder and harder for the deniers to make a case. In the end, the truth and facts win out. The science community is working hard to seek out the facts and an understanding of what is truly happening and making the best educated estimates of what might happen in the future using scientifically based models and judgment.

Gosh Barry, Florida? South Florida where large limestone formations occur (many feet ASL)? That area was never under sea water?

I will give you a clue why NOBODY is coming to your talks, you base all your assumptions in IPCC AR4, the least reliable yet (until AR5 comes out). Hurricanes are NOT increasing and sea rise is NOT accelerating. Check with University of Colorado (there is a Sea Level Research Group and a Dr. R. Pielke for the increase of hurricanes). When was that last Florida hurricane landfall?

Also, everyone in Florida knows that the keys and south Florida is ripe for the sea to reclaim it. You may be right in planning, but for the wrong reason. That would mean you "deny" the facts, while others are sorting out the BS.
