MADR: Harsh winter destroyed 350,000 hectares of crops, 77 pct of rapeseed | ACTMedia

The harsh winter of last year destroyed nearly 350,000 hectares of crops in Romania, out of 2.57 million hectares sown last autumn, with the rapeseed crops having been the most seriously damaged because of frost, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) reports.

With 97 percent of all scientists now saying that global warming is happening and human-caused, according to the National Academy of Sciences, and with the weather proving out that assertion, red-state Republicans face a long, hot summer.

They're heading home to campaign for constituents whose lives are being made miserable – and whose economic fortunes are being ruined – by scorching temperatures, drought, deluge, and tornadoes.

The overnight temperature in Gainesville dipped to 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville. That's just one degree shy of the record of 39 set in 1993.
