The 2-day total of 3.5 inches was the 2nd most on record so late in the season, behind the 4.0 inches that fell on May 31st, 1951. The 2012 snow event was also the latest measurable snow to occur at Billings Logan Field since 1975. The latest report of measurable snow on record since 1934 was two inches on June 8th, 1950.

Temperatures from May 25th through the 27th, 2012 were also unseasonably cold. In fact, the average temperature of 40.7 degrees at the Billings airport made it the coldest 3-day stretch this late in the spring since May 30 through June 3rd, 1951. During that period, the average temperature was only 40.3 degrees over a 5-day period. Furthermore, the record setting low temperature of 31 degrees on the 25th and 26th were the coldest temperatures recorded at the billings airport so late in the season since 1947.
