Trevi Fountain crumbles after cold weather | thetelegraph.com.au

ROME'S Trevi Fountain, a baroque must-see for tourists, is crumbling, possibly as a delayed result of last winter's freezing temperatures.

Chunks up to eight centimetres wide have fallen off of its ledges in recent days, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Research Shows Humans are Primary Cause of Global Ocean Warming Over Past 50 Years - insciences

The group looked at the average temperature (or heat content) in the upper layers of the ocean. The observed global average ocean warming (from the surface to 700 meters) is approximately 0.025 degrees Celsius per decade, or slightly more than 1/10th of a degree Celsius [what's the margin of error here?] over 50 years. The sub-surface ocean warming is noticeably less than the observed Earth surface warming, primarily because of the relatively slow transfer of ocean surface warming to lower depths. Nevertheless, because of the ocean's enormous heat capacity, the oceans likely account for more than 90 percent of the heat accumulated over the past 50 years as the Earth has warmed.

Offsetting and Feedback: Do the Books Balance?

All these potential issues surrounding the loss of permafrost and frozen lands, which have recently gained a high level of prominence, are just one example of a number of positive feedback loops that could be triggered by a warmer planet.

More on Screening in Gergis et al 2012 « Climate Audit

Karoly recognized that the invocation of other Hockey Sticks was irrelevant to the specific criticism of his paper and did not bother with the realclimate juvenilia that has done so much to erode the public reputation of climate scientists. Good for him...Both I and other bloggers (see links surveyed here) have observed that the common “community” practice of screening proxies for the “most temperature sensitive” or equivalent imparts a bias towards Hockey Sticks. This bias has commonly demonstrated by producing a Stick from red noise.
