She said Alec was in Rio de Janeiro for a conference when he found out about the honor.
Alec Loorz said he became involved with climate change at 12 after seeing Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth."
Alec said he went to El Camino High School at Ventura College for two years before eventually deciding to pursue his high school education through home schooling. Victoria said she and her son were often on the road two weeks a month, traveling on behalf of Kids vs. Global Warming.
