We ought, therefore, to be encouraging better engineering - the sort of engineering that Britain used to be so good at, not throwing taxpayers' money at a dubious technology that needs a lot more development before it could ever become practical.

We might as well be subsidising flying cars. Again, a lovely idea, but again, sadly, part of the future, not of today.
