Australian Climate Madness: New Japanese government to wreck economy
What is it with the Left and climate alarmism? Is it because the Left loves taxing and regulating people out of existence and AGW is the best way to achieve that goal by the back door? You decide. All I know is that China must be rubbing its hands with glee, as yet more of Japan's already depleted electronics industry will be heading their way in the near future…

Greens cling to moral fix | The Australian
Indeed, one could be forgiven for thinking that some environmentalists - who, like Al Gore, believe that tackling climate change has provided them with "the exhilaration of a compelling moral purpose" - don't really want climate change to be solved. After all, what would they do with themselves then? Their sense of moral purpose, and moral superiority over the wayward masses, is far more important than the small matter of actually preventing climate change.

South Asian Youth Meet on climate change [fraud] concludes
They plan to organize follow-up events, sensitize the society and create generations of youth committed to a low carbon life.

The participants demanded that south Asian governments agree on the Most Vulnerable Countries/ Alliance of Small Island States stance that temperature increase should be limited to below 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and CO2 concentration should be brought back to below 350 parts per million (ppm). They urged the Annex 1 parties to commit to reduce emission by 45 percent by 2020 and 90 percent by 2050 with base year 1990 and emission peaking no later than 2015.

They demanded the need for the establishment of a party-funded south Asian regional center. Such a center is to facilitate research, scientific development, economic diversification and inclusion of youth representative in the official delegation to climate change negotiations, especially as a constituency to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change talks.

You know what? Global warming may well disappear for two decades and then reappear. That's because it is one of, and not the strongest, forces that affect our climate. It will tend to push long term temperature averages up by 2 degrees Celsius if concentrations of CO2 double. Sea levels may rise 18 inches this century instead of a foot. We may have to reinforce some sea walls and change some zoning regulations as a result.

[Alarmist Bryan Walsh]: Van Jones Goes, But His Ideas on Green Jobs Should Stay - TIME
Environmentalists, Jones included, sometimes make too much of green jobs, as if we can beat climate change and poverty without paying a cent. Climate Observations: ENSO Dominates NODC Ocean Heat Content (0-700 Meters) Data
It is clear that significant El Nino events can and do cause upward step changes in Ocean Heat Content. This indicates that ENSO events do more than simply release heat from the tropical Pacific into the atmosphere. Apparently, El Nino events also cause changes in atmospheric circulation in ways that impact Ocean Heat Content. If and when GCMs are able to recreate the variations in atmospheric circulation that cause these changes in Ocean Heat Content, GCMs may have value in predicting future climate variability. At present, they do not.

New regulations being drawn up by the European Commission are expected to outlaw energy-inefficient 'directional' bulbs - more than 200 million of which are sold in Europe each year.

The move could cost British homeowners a fortune because low-energy replacements are more expensive and could require new fittings to be installed.

Bill Wallace: Global warming
So, to believe that climate change is one big hoax as postulated by William Gray at the Freedom Conference last week, one would have to believe in the existence of a worldwide conspiracy perpetrated on virtually all of the recognized scientific and technical institutions that have standing and expertise in these matters. This would be a conspiracy of gargantuan proportions, sort of like any episode of the X Files you ever saw times a million.
Or maybe groupthink, ideology and perverse incentives have helped to prop up the greatest scientific fraud in human history.
Social engineering and the dark side of the American Left
Consider, for example, the widespread assumption that the state has the vocation to act as a supra steward of the human race. In January, James Hansen of NASA (known as the “father” of the global warming movement), told the Guardian that Obama “has only four years to save the earth.” Hansen painted a chilling picture of the apocalyptic future awaiting us if government failed to assert drastic measures like the “carbon tax.”

It is not hard to see the continuity Hansen’s remarks have with the eugenics politics of the last century. In both cases, the underlying premise is that the state holds the future of the human race in its reigns, and unless significant freedom is surrendered over to them, irresponsible individualism will destroy our chances – or our children’s chances - on this planet.

The same has been attempted about global warming/climate change/greenhouse effect. The issue is addressed by leftists as a foregone conclusion, though the data is questionable and woefully inadequate. The “solution” to the “problem” is green jobs and trading around paper permits. The real problem is, leftists can’t explain what a “green job” is, other than saying “it reduces your carbon footprint”. They do not add that a consequence of footprint-reductions is a reduction in quality of life for many humans. But the true objective is to eliminate capitalism and its attendant reliance on growth. Climate Alarmism on the Hot Seat: Eric Berger, Houston Chronicle Science Writer, Wants to Know What’s Up — MasterResource
What Eric Berger will find out, I believe, is that the ‘easy’ computable answer for climate models introduced an inherently biased, upward estimate of climate sensitivity. But the climate is much more complex that the (artificial) models, and more realistic physics (a la Lindzen) suggest climate to have less positive (and maybe neutral or negative) feedbacks. This would mean that CO2 is a benign, trace gas–not a harbinger of doom.

LONDON - One of Britain’s most eminent scientists, who is an atheist, has said that the world may have to turn to religion to save itself from catastrophic climate change.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Lord May, the president of the British Science Association, said that religion may have helped protect human society from itself in the past and it may be needed again.
...
“People who believe in the End of Days, who believe the world is going to come to an end, don’t care about climate change. I think there is quite a strong connection between the religious right and climate change denial,” he said.

End of the summer? | John Redwood MP
I am not myself going into the climate forecasting business. I have seen what trouble the Met office had with their catchy but wrong BBQ summer forecast this year. Nonetheless it is good to know that scientists are wrestling with their models to try to get closer to what we are experiencing on the ground., Maybe what the weather people meant when they said it would be a BBQ summer was just what we had – cold and damp, huddled under the umbrellas as the wet charcoal takes ages to come to life. Some would say that is the true English BBQ, served with grit to guests clutching shawls, or rushing for the padded jackets.

FARMER: Kathleen D'Onofrio says she knows climate legislation has a high hurdle in the Senate. Do you have a little David-and-Goliath feeling going on?

Ms. D'ONOFRIO: Oh, definitely. But what I'm so fearful of now, we can't agree on any health care legislation when it involves our own selves. What's it going to be when it's this vague feeling of global warming?

FARMER: Organizers say they're not worried about the relative quiet at their meetings. Chris Ford of Tennessee Conservation Voters says the calm could signal widespread support for cap and trade.

Frost gives kiwifruit growers sleepless nights - New Zealand
"This time of year is quite stressful for growers and orchard managers as they don't get much sleep on frosty nights. It's not over yet.

"We still have another 10 weeks to go before the frost risk has passed," he said.

After a series of severe spring frosts three to four years ago most orchardists installed protection systems including fans and water sprinklers.

Some commission helicopters to fly over orchards, forcing warmer air down on to the vines.
Orchardists check harm from spate of frosts | New Zealand
Although Mr Jeffery said orchardists expected frosts at this time of the year, he estimated it would have been a decade since many were fighting frost so early in September.
Mankato, MN - Cool water park summer
Sara Heyer can be forgiven for shuddering at mentions of the numeral 20.

That’s the number of chill-ridden days the Waseca Water Park has had to close this summer, and its manager said she hates having to turn people away.
...
This has been the third-coolest summer on record in Minnesota, which has been swell for lawns and air conditioning bills but a buzzkill for warmth-dependent enterprises such as water parks.

“This has been one for the books,” Heyer said of a summer that has produced some stunning data.

KEYC-TV meteorologist Mark Tarello said the traditionally torrid months of July and August produced a grand total of zero days of 90 degrees or above in Mankato.
Sen. Barbara Boxer the force behind upcoming [climate fraud] bill
"If the planet heats up too much, we're going to have an America that doesn't resemble this one and will be very incompatible with the health of our families," Boxer said.

One recent Rasmussen poll found Boxer just four points ahead of possible challenger Carly Fiorina, a former Hewlett-Packard chief executive. Fiorina, a Los Altos Hills Republican who has yet to formally declare her candidacy, declined through a spokeswoman to comment on Boxer's legislation.
West Virginia - Rockefeller questioned on cap and trade
A recent poll found that 66 percent of registered state voters said they believed that global warming is a serious problem, according to the poll by Mark Blankenship Enterprises, a Charleston-based consulting group.

But 69 percent of people in the same survey said they aren't willing to pay $50 a month or more on their electric bills to prevent global warming. The poll was a late August survey of 400 registered. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.9 percent.
West Virginia - Cap-and-trade scenario dire for jobs
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - The Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade energy bill pending in Congress could cost West Virginia 38,500 jobs, West Virginia University economist Tom Witt said.
Cap and trade bashed at rally, draws protest
Wayne Wood, president of the 47,000-member Michigan Farm Bureau, asked the crowd how happy they would be if the price of food went up 30 percent. That's how much he estimated the cost of food would increase with the increased costs of natural gas, electricity and petroleum to farmers, which would increase costs of fuel, fertilizer and chemicals.
...
“This is a huge concern for farmers because energy expenses account for 60 percent of a farm's total operating costs,” Wood said.
MUST READ: Judging Global Warming As A Scientific Theory by Doug L. Hoffman | Climate Realists
Recapping, five out of five predictions made by global warming alarmists, based on the theory of anthropogenic global warming, have been shown to be inaccurate or out right false. Greenland's glaciers are not about to disappear, sea-levels are not rapidly rising, polar bears are not going extinct, hurricanes have not become more frequent or more violent, and temperatures are currently going down, not up. The predicted outcomes of AGW simply are not coming to pass. As we stated in The Resilient Earth:

After examining the science, the IPCC's claims and predictions, and the possible impact realistic levels of global warming could have on our world, we conclude that there is no imminent threat—not to nature, people or human civilization.
Climate Research News » Oil is NOT a Fossil Fuel, and CO2 is an Innocent Victim of Green Hysteria by Peter J Morgan
A team consisting of Russian scientists and Dr J. F. Kenney, of Gas Resources Corporation, Houston, USA, have actually built a reactor vessel and proven that oil is produced from calcium carbonate and iron oxide, as detailed on the Gas Resources website www.gasresources.net/AlkaneGenesis.htm
Sea Ice - Sept 2009 « Climate Audit
That my guess was so close was due more to good luck than acumen, but there were some reasons for it. Canada has some exposure to northern weather and it has been a cool summer here and very cool in northern Ontario. 2008 had not been as big a melt as 2007 and presumably there was presumably a bit more two-year ice in 2009 than in 2008. While 2008 and 2009 were about even at the time, the trajectories looked different and it seemed to me that 2009 might stabilize at a higher level than 2008.

And yet in early/mid August, these factors didn't seem to be on the minds of the official agencies since, as noted above, EVERY official agency substantially over-estimated the melt.
The Reference Frame: Schellnhuber: West has exceeded quotas
Of course, Schellnhuber is not the first hardcore nutcase of this kind who has been saying such things, pretending that he is oh so smart.
The Crashing Liberal Agenda - HUMAN EVENTS
Liberals may also try to strike a compromise on their war against carbon emissions and global warming (even though the planet’s cooling). Conservatives should make absolutely clear that a cap-and-trade regime on power plants or a renewable electricity standard are not acceptable. Both would raise the cost of energy, especially to states that depend heavily on coal (think West Virginia, Wyoming, North Dakota, Utah, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Missouri). Conservatives should also reject a Low-Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), which would increase our independence on Middle Eastern oil and be tremendously expensive.

SciGuy | A science blog with Eric Berger | Climate scientists should talk about what "may" happen, rather than what "will" happen
But I am confused. Four years ago this all seemed like a fait accompli. Humans were unquestionably warming the climate and changing the planet forever through their emissions of carbon dioxide.

The problem is that some climate scientists and environmentalists have been so determined to see something done about carbon dioxide emissions -- now -- that they have glossed over the uncertainties.

Uncertainties like: maybe there isn't a linear relationship between carbon dioxide and temperature, and maybe the planet will cool for a couple of decades even as carbon dioxide emissions accelerate.
Conclusive evidence of man made global warming found in Arctic geological record
Many are hoping that this large amount of evidence will finally get people to realize that the naysayers have been bullying them into supporting big pollution causing businesses such as the oil and coal industry for their own agenda which is harming all of us. It is time to say no to the oil and coal agenda and work together for a healthy and sustainable future.

U.S. climate change bill to compete with healthcare

But as the debate over healthcare legislation rages and with President Barack Obama due to address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday to try to rescue the faltering plan, it was unclear whether rattled lawmakers will have the time -- or the inclination -- to take on climate change.
It's not an impossibility, but it's certainly not a slam-dunk and never has been, said Frank O'Donnell, president of the activist group Clean Air Watch.
The healthcare debate, O'Donnell added, has basically sucked all the oxygen out of the room.

*REAL PROBLEMS COPENHAGEN SUMMIT SHOULD ADDRESS* *An email

If the Copenhagen conference is about addressing climate concerns, the focus should be on the detrimental effects of 'global cooling' and not about 'global warming' which ended over a decade ago. While 'global warming' was not only benign, it was beneficial, improving the global food supply with extended growing seasons for countries such as Canada which supplies wheat to many parts of the world facing food shortages. 'Global cooling' on the other hand has no beneficial attributes as is clearly demonstrated by the historical accounts of the Little Ice Age that caused such great hardships for large parts of the world.

The Migrant Mind: Winters of Discontent in Mississippi

But what is fascinating is the pattern that gives rise to that bias. Every winter, Brookhaven City is warmer, often by more than 10 degrees. There can be only one cause of this, so far as I can tell--it is that the thermometer at Brookhaven City is next to an heat source, a strong heat source. I dont' know what it is but it doesn't have the same effect in the summer as it does in the winter months.

US official: 'Sea change' in US on climate issues : US World

Geneva - A senior United States official said Wednesday that a "sea change" was taking place in public opinion on climate change among citizens in the world's largest economy and biggest emitter of pollutants. "We are beginning to see a sea change in the United States in attitudes towards the climate," Jane Lubchenco, an under secretary of commerce, told reporters in Geneva, where she was attending a UN climate conference.

"In many people's personal experiences things are different," she said, adding that this was driving the change, as increased floods and other events were causing Americans to rethink their opinions.

The report endorsed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said: "The idea of freezing the current level of global inequality over the next half century or more, as the world goes about trying to solve the climate problem, is economically, politically and ethically unacceptable."

UN chief 'alarmed' at Arctic glacier melt
Ban said world leaders had a "moral political responsibility" to safeguard the future of the planet.

"I am very much alarmed and surprised to have seen these glaciers all worn," he told journalists as he visited the Ny-Aalesund climate change research station in the Svalbard archipelago, located 1,200 kilometres (745 miles) from the North Pole.

"Unless we take urgent action to stem this trend, we maybe virtually ice-free by 2037, even by 2030," he said.
The Rosett Report » Prepared With the Help of Russia, China and, Of Course, Iran…
Attuned, perhaps, to criticisms that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy involved in UN conferences that entail hundreds of people jetting in for a week of dining, wining and filling the plush hotels, the conference organizers have included in their materials some suggestions for making their conclave “more climate friendly.” This includes the reminder, “Don’t forget to turn the light off when you leave the room.” Actually, that could stand as a motto for the entire endeavor. All over the world, if this UN campaign gets any more traction, a lot of lights are going to go out. It’s happened before, and there’s a name for it: The Dark Ages. For that, perhaps it makes some sense to have the governments of Russia, China and Iran on the organizing committee.
Summer sea ice likely to disappear in the Arctic by 2015
If current melting trends continue, the Arctic Ocean is likely to be free of summer sea ice by 2015, according to research presented at a conference organized by the National Space Institute at Technical University of Denmark, the Danish Meteorological Institute and the Greenland Climate Center.
2007: Al Gore lays blame for Bali stalemate on U.S. | Reuters
In a speech familiar to viewers of his film "An Inconvenient Truth" and to a global climate change lecture tour, Gore puzzled over a lack of urgency to fight climate change at Bali.

"There's no precedent in history, culture for the radically new relationship between humanity and the planet," he said, citing new evidence this week that the North Pole may be ice-free in summer as soon as 2012.
Business Daily - The dark side of carbon trading
Early last year GreenSeat calculated that it costs a mere 28 dollars to plant 66 trees which ‘‘compensates’’ for the carbon-dioxide emissions of a return flight from Frankfurt to Kampala.

Although the project has a guaranteed lifespan of 99 years, the indigenous communities in the mountain are bitterly opposed to it.

Moses Mwanga, chairperson of the Benet Lobby Group, an organisation pushing for the rights of the Benet, told IPS during a visit to the area that the evictions have caused indescribable suffering to the Benet who are now living as squatters, having lost their land and other belongings to armed park rangers.
