More than six hundred scientists, economists, legislators, and journalists from around the world met in New York on March 8-10 for the second International Conference on Climate Change. Manmade Climate-Change Hoax - Commentary: The Post Chronicle
President Obama and the Congress – or at least most of it – have been breast-beating about the terrible effects that mankind has wrought and continues to wreak upon the climate, their claims asserting the inundation relatively soon of many land areas by the oceans, not to mention the increase in temperatures, called global warming, a buzz-term used by the alarmists. One result of this climate-fear-mongering, naturally, has been the carbon-cap legislation, complete with stiff penalties for concerns that allegedly infuse the atmosphere with too much greenhouse gas, meaning consequent higher taxes and prices for everything as the losses are recouped.
Climate of recession raises sea levels alarmingly :: Gerald Warner
What this is all about is the constant need to replenish the coffers of those scientists who have taken the UN's shilling by sounding ever more urgent alarms, in the hope that public opinion will compel governments to keep on paying Danegeld to climate-change alarmists. As the recession deepens, improvident bankers and the global warming industry are the last remaining beneficiaries of the public purse deemed sacrosanct. The Al Gore brigade intends to keep it that way, so do not be surprised if the salt water rises over your chin shortly - in the computer model if not in real life.

Pajamas Media » Skeptics Score at Climate Change Conference
But that’s not why I think the skeptics are winning. The rational skeptics are winning because the global warming crowd has simply dropped the two words “global warming” from its vocabulary. No more official global warming! This is like the old Soviet Communist Party. You have to analyze not just what’s said but what’s not said. You have to look to see who has been airbrushed out of the pictures of the Politburo waving on top of Lenin’s tomb watching the May Day parade. And “global warming” has disappeared from respectable scientific discourse. Only the elementary school teachers of the world will keep teaching about global warming, because their lesson plans are already written, and they’re a little slow on the uptake.

Maldives aims to become first carbon-neutral country - Asia, World - The Independent
The Maldives – the island nation threatened by rising sea level as a result of global warming – is attempting to become the world's first carbon-neutral country.

The Independent has learnt that tomorrow President Mohammed Nasheed will reveal details of a plan to achieve full carbon neutrality within 10 years. In doing so, his country of islands in the Indian Ocean, will join a small group of nations racing to be first in what environmentalists have described as "the Carbon World Cup".

Five other countries – Costa Rica, Iceland, Norway, New Zealand and Monaco – have signed up to a UN-backed plan to become zero net emitters but none intend to achieve carbon neutrality as quickly as the Maldives, a nation of island atolls which is highly vulnerable to rising sea levels.

Naïve statements as to the effectiveness of carbon dioxide emissions restrictions to alter the future course of climate perhaps serve to spur on action or make people feel better about what they or their governments are doing in the short run. But over the long term, California is going to get the climate that it gets (and damages still are going to occur, as they always have) and at some point, those in charge are going to have to start explaining what went wrong with their plan—and let’s hope, for the sake of current and future Californians, that the explanation will only involve the climate, and not the economy.
Sound Science for Thee, but Not for Me (does ethanol analysis count in this new world?) — MasterResource
But … those studies all overlook two very important considerations that bear on the analysis. First, they ignore the impact that corn ethanol production has on crop prices and, thus, on land use decisions world-wide. Take that into account and the case for ethanol relative to gasoline goes up in smoke according to Searchinger et al (2008) and Pineiro et al (2009). Second, those studies assume lower nitrous oxide emissions (a potent greenhouse gas) from ethanol production than is actually the case. Plug in the more accurate estimates from Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen (2007) and, again, any case for ethanol disappears.

Reporters — and headline writers — need to bear in mind that scientists continuing to one-up each other in unverifiable claims about future catastrophes that will befall us unless a desired agenda is adopted does not on its own merit a news story. Further, these claims do not conflate with empirical temperature observations, which the record is clear are not greater in scope or rate than previously predicted.

It is inconceivable that reporters and editors are this regularly and ritually stupid. They do this on purpose, not merely to sell copy, but to frighten you into accepting an agenda they have adopted — with revolutionary fervor, if very little substance — and hence the ruses and lies.

Gore jets to London, sips on CO2-laced drink, talks about his carbon-offsetting scam business

We will create green new deal, says Gore | World news | The Guardian
For a man with the very survival of human civilisation weighing heavily on his broad shoulders, Al Gore cuts a surprisingly relaxed figure. With a Diet Coke in hand, and chewing gum rolling around inside his mouth, one of the great "what ifs" of modern political history strolls into the boardroom of his London-based asset management firm, located in one of the city's "most environmentally friendly buildings".

Gore is in the capital, as he is every few months, to spend a couple of days meeting with his partners at Generation Investment Management, the "sustainability-driven" asset management firm he set up in 2004 with David Blood, who, as the former chief executive of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, once managed investments worth $325bn (£232bn). As is the case everywhere, the numbers are somewhat smaller these days, but the firm they both wanted to call Blood and Gore (sadly, it was overruled by the rest of the board) still manages a pot of investments worth billions, according to Blood.

As chairman, Gore, 61, says he spends about "one day a week" working for Generation, but his press handlers won't expand on what investments he holds or remuneration he receives, other than to say he initially used his own money to "experiment with" in trial investments during the two-year period when the company's "structure and philosophy" was being established ahead of any outside investors being invited to join them. It is tempting to see Gore's role at Generation as the day job, allowing him the time and financial security to spend the rest of the working week on his three-decade-long quest to warn the world about the perils of climate change. But he insists that his role at Generation is as important as any of his other high-profile projects.
...
Gore says that, since the election of Barack Obama last November, he feels much more bullish about the chances of political progress in tackling climate change. But one group who are unlikely to ever "get it" are the ever-vocal contingent of climate change sceptics, the most prominent of whom were gathered at a conference this week in New York. Al Gore, the world's best-known climate change "alarmist", as the sceptics like to say, was a popular source of ridicule and ire at the conference. Gore brackets the sceptics with those who believe in creationism: "It's fed by a huge amount of funding from carbon special interests who have been financing these phoney, pseudo-scientific reports and they have a self-interest in sowing doubt. Doubt is their product.
Revkin's Dot Earth Blog: Scientist: Warming Could Cut Population to 1 Billion - Comments from Richard Courtney | Climate Realists
OK. So, Schellnhuber is said to have asserted that if emissions of greenhouse gases - notably carbon dioxide (CO2) - were to rise by 7 deg.F then 5 billion people could die.

But constraining carbon dioxide emissions at their present level would deliberately kill at least 2 billion people - mostly children – before the middle of this century. And reducing the emissions would kill more millions – possibly billions – of people. This would be a genocide of a magnitude not previously possible in all human history.

The reason for this is simple. All human activity is enabled by energy supply and limited by material science, and the human population is growing.

The energy supply enables the growing of crops, the manufacture of tools, and the use of those tools for construction and the provision of goods and services. Material science limits what can be done with the available energy; e,g. an iron plough share is better than a wooden one, ability to etch silicon enables adequately reliable computers, etc.
ECO-BLOAT: EXTRA MELTING OF GREENLAND'S ICE
An email from Dave English [prospector@znet.com] pointing out that the Warmists have not done the math behind their scare

David Adam writes from Copenhagen: "Scientists at the Copenhagen conference said that modest IPCC estimates of likely sea level rise this century need to be increased. Extra melting in Greenland could drive sea levels to more than a metre higher than today by 2100"

This is typical eco-bloat. Taking into account that the Earth's surface is 70% ocean and that it takes 1.1 cubic mile of ice to make a cubic mile of water, to raise the oceans one inch would take 2400 (2398+) cubic miles of ice. To raise the oceans one meter would take 94,488 cubic miles of ice melting. Greenland is melting at 55 cubic miles a year, their dream is to make us believe that the melting would become not two or four times faster than today but 18.67 times faster, from 55 cubic miles a year to 1027 cubic miles a year for 92 years.

Cap-and-trade: Obama's 'economic dagger'
Citing a recent Pew Poll in which Americans ranked the economy at the top – and global warming at the bottom - of a market basket of political issues, Inhofe calls cap-and-trade legislation “a form of global taxation” and believes it can be defeated again, even though it has the full backing of the Obama administration. The realization is slowly but surely growing here that duplicating Europe’s failed cap-and-trade scheme would be a knock-out blow for the U.S. economy because it would dramatically increase energy costs and cripple the nation’s dwindling manufacturing base. The Detroit News aptly called cap-and-trade “a giant economic dagger aimed at the nation's heartland.”

Even Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-ND, warned that the president’s $3.5 trillion budget “can’t pass here” if it contains cap-and-trade provisions that virtually guarantee a stratospheric rise in energy costs for families and businesses. The Obama administration has already signaled its intention to limit the supply of energy by blocking funding for a nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain and canceling existing federal oil and gas leases. Less supply inescapably means higher prices. So let us hope that Inhofe’s bold assertion that “we are winning the argument with the American people” is correct. If it is, it comes just in the nick of time.

...
He also said Obama's proposal for mandatory limits on carbon dioxide emissions to combat climate change will lead to higher energy costs and amount to an "average hidden tax increase of around $3,000 per household a year." The Obama administration maintains that revenue from auctioning off carbon emission allowances would offset much of the higher energy costs for many Americans.

Al Gore: World will agree new climate deal - Telegraph
The Nobel peace prize winner believes the election of Barack Obama as US President and a growing awareness among business leaders of the environmental threat means there is now enough political momentum to tackle the problem.

He said: "There is a very impressive consensus now emerging around the world that solutions to the economic crisis are also the solutions to the climate crisis."

Mr Gore said he was confident that a global climate deal will be agreed at the UN-brokered climate talks scheduled in Copenhagen in December.

Speaking in an interview with the Guardian, he said: "I actually think we will get an agreement at Copenhagen.

"Obama's election is one of the main factors. But we also have a big ally in the reality the planet is under assault. This collision with human civilisation is increasingly dire."

Mr Gore says he has also detected a shift on the part of many of the world's business leaders.

"They're seeing the writing on every wall they look at. They're seeing the complete disappearance of the polar ice caps right before their eyes in just a few years..."

Alert: '90 per cent of the participants do not believe the UN IPCC report' - Japanese scientists challenge warming claims: (Australian Sun)

Japanese scientists cool on theories | The Australian
THREE senior Japanese scientists separately engaged in climate-change research have strongly questioned the validity of the man-made global-warming model that underpins the drive by the UN and most developed-nation governments to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

"I believe the anthropogenic (man-made) effect for climate change is still only one of the hypotheses to explain the variability of climate," Kanya Kusano told The Weekend Australian.

It could take 10 to 20 years more research to prove or disprove the theory of anthropogenic climate change, said Dr Kusano, a research group leader with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science's Earth Simulator project.

"Before anyone noticed, this hypothesis has been substituted for truth," writes Shunichi Akasofu, founding director of the University of Alaska's International Arctic Research Centre.

Dr Kusano, Dr Akasofu and Tokyo Institute of Technology geology professor Shigenori Maruyama are highly critical of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's acceptance that hazardous global warming results mainly from man-made gas emissions.

On the scientific evidence so far, according to Dr Kusano, the IPCC assertion that atmospheric temperatures are likely to increase continuously and steadily "should be perceived as an unprovable hypothesis".

Dr Maruyama said yesterday there was widespread scepticism among his colleagues about the IPCC's fourth and latest assessment report that most of the observed global temperature increase since the mid-20th century "is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations".

When this question was raised at a Japan Geoscience Union symposium last year, he said, "the result showed 90 per cent of the participants do not believe the IPCC report".

As Barack Obama adopts the radical "global warming" agenda of Al Gore, it's time to consider where this extremist, anti-people, Luddite, Malthusian concept of apocalyptic, man-made climate change inevitably leads.

First, you must understand that no one – not even Al Gore – believes that the most restrictive voluntary or even coercive steps being discussed today will have the slightest impact on global temperatures.

Most don't believe it for the same reason I don't – they understand "global warming" is a scam designed to empower government, preferably at the global level.

World's "leading" "scientists" desperately promote the greatest scientific fraud of all time
In what was described as a watershed moment, more than 2,500 leading environmental experts agreed a statement that called on governments to act before the planet becomes an unrecognisable – and, in places, impossible – place to live.

At an emergency climate summit in Copenhagen, scientists agreed that "worst case" scenarios were already becoming reality and that, unless drastic action was taken soon, "dangerous climate change" was imminent.

In a strongly worded message that, unusually for academics, appealed directly to politicians, they said there was "no excuse for inaction" and that "weak and "ineffective" governments must stand up to big business and "vested interests".

Steps should be "vigorously and widely implemented", they said, to reduce greenhouse gases. Failure to do so would result in "significant risk" of "irreversible climatic shifts", the statement added.

The plea came as Lord Stern, the former chief economist of the World Bank whose report two years ago drew attention to the possible results of global warming, told the conference that unless politicians grasped the gravity of the situation it would be "devastating".

Increases in average temperatures of six degrees by the end of the century were an increasing possibility and would produce conditions not seen on Earth for more than 30 million years, he said.

That could mean massive rises in sea level, whole areas devastated by hurricanes and others turned into uninhabitable desert, he claimed, forcing billions of people to leave their homelands.

Why are not citizens up in arms against a carbon tax? - GLG News
Carbon dioxide is a basic part of the atmosphere and its concentration varies all the time, sometimes a lot, sometimes not so much. Much depends on volcanic activity, a highly variable series of events which vent billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at peak periods of activity. But not to worry. The oceans soak it up.Without carbon dioxide, we would have no White Cliffs of Dover. Plant life needs it for photosynthesis. No carbon dioxide, no forests. These proposals are very, very costly and economically damaging. If enacted, last year’s flagship cap and trade proposal, the Lieberman-Warner bill, would increase the cost of gasoline by anywhere from 60 percent to 144 percent and increase the cost of electricity by 77 to 129 percent.

Up to four million Americans would lose their jobs under the program, which amounts to a $4,022 to $6,752 loss in disposable income per household. In return, we could have expected a 63 percent emissions cut. President Obama’s budget proposes to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 83 percent. If successful, it’s reasonable to conclude it would lead to even greater economic hardship than envisioned under Lieberman-Warner.

Other problems inherent in cap and trade exist, and they are manifold. What follows is a brief explanation of some of the most glaring...

I could see people being crushed by truncheons, being pulled away by their jaw bones. Faces were harshly forced into the wet concrete ground, knees violently pushed into backs as we were thrust to the ground to be handcuffed. Faces were contorted in pain as ankles were twisted and legs were forced. Each person was then dragged across the concrete and dropped in groups, hands bound, and we waited. Eventually we were all taken on busses to a large basement building for processing by the Belgian police and released without charge a few hours later.

President Obama has driven a stake in the heart of his carbon cap-and-trade program. By transforming it from a relatively cost-effective environmental program into a cash cow to finance his ambitious health and social welfare agenda, he has encumbered it with very expensive baggage. Blue Dog Democrats and conservation-minded Republicans will gag on its cost to an economy now racked by recession.
Cap and Horse Trade: Obama’s Uphill Battle for Climate Bill - Environmental Capital - WSJ
Passing cap-and-trade legislation was always going to be an uphill battle, made only tougher by the continuing deterioration of the economy. But the further the climate bill moves from an openly debated environmental program toward a social agenda implemented by fiat, the tougher it’s going to get.
Dick Witzig: You’ve been lied to by the media | RecordCourier.com
To the dismay of the UN, our wacko environmentalists and “cap and trade” politicians (preparing to burden you with unnecessary taxes) the “manmade global warming” hoax is being debunked by hundreds of expert climatologists. The planet continues its decade of cooling. By the way CO2 is not a noxious gas, you’re exhaling it. CO2 levels have no bearing on planetary temperature. You’ve been lied to. Readers, please check this assertion. Dr. Roy Spencer, Lord Moncton.....or hundreds of their colleagues (vis UN climate conference in Poland December 2008), Hadley in GB are reliable experts in the field of climatology. Al Gore is not an expert. He is a dufus getting rich on a hoax. I find it offensive that this dufus thinks we are dufi.

While Barack, etal, are about to commit billions of your (your children and grandchildrens’) dollars to windmills and solar energy, which comprise less than 2 percent of our current energy source, they oppose building refineries and safe, clean nuclear power plants (the source of 75 percent of France’s power). Can you picture Obama, Pelosi and Reid driving around in a car with a solar panel on the hood, a sail on the roof and a windmill on the trunk? No, the “Obamamobile” is for the masses.
