C3: The Oceans Are Rising Faster Than Ever! Greatest Lie Ever Told? Let's Review Place #6: Seattle
For years (decades?), climate alarmist scientists have been claiming that the oceans were rising with "unprecedented" speed due to human-caused global warming. These scientists claim that because of all the melting of glaciers and ice sheets, due to human-caused warming, the sea levels are rising at an accelerated pace and will continue to so - up to a 20 foot rise by the end of the century is predicted. If this accelerated sea level rising is happening as claimed, then it should be evident across the world. Fortunately, the sea rise at Seattle is less than one foot per century. This is just but one example of ocean facts countering sea-rise alarmism hype - more to follow. (On average, recent satellite measurements put global ocean level increases at 3mm/year or 1 foot/century.)

Reuters poll ignores only 2489 of the alleged 2500 "IPCC experts"
OSLO/BONN (Reuters) - Global warming is likely to overshoot a 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 F) rise seen by the European Union and many developing nations as a trigger for "dangerous" change, a Reuters poll of scientists showed on Tuesday.

Nine of 11 experts, who were among authors of the final summary by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007 (IPCC), also said the evidence that mankind was to blame for climate change had grown stronger in the past two years.

Giving personal views of recent research, most projected on average a faster melt of summer ice in the Arctic and a quicker rise in sea levels than estimated in the 2007 report, the most authoritative overview to date drawing on work by 2,500 experts.

Green obsession puts deadly heat on elderly | Herald Sun
THE green jihad against airconditioners must stop. Too many elderly Australians have died already.

Victoria's chief health officer, Dr John Carnie, this week said some 374 Victorians may have been killed by the January heat wave, most of them old.

In South Australia, the toll is estimated at 80.

Just how many died because power blackouts knocked out their airconditioning is not known. And I doubt either government will ever say.

But what we are told is that both states now have plans to cut off the airconditioning - or make it too costly for pensioners to use - just when the heat is at its most lethal and the lives of the elderly hang in the balance.

Arctic will be ice-free within a decade - Telegraph
Records for the Arctic only go back as far as 1979, when it became possible to collect data from space, however scientists are confident that the current levels of ice are lower than they have been for at least a century from observational records.

"It could be several hundred thousand years ago the last time we were ice free, it was certainly seven to eight hundred years since we have had close to conditions like we have now," added Dr Meier.

He said the melting of the Arctic is happening much faster than previously anticipated because of man made climate change.

WWF - Polar bears and penguins 'just tip of climate change iceberg'
Global average warming due to climate change since the late 1800s is showing severe impacts at less than one degree, as the Arctic is warming at about twice the global average and parts of the Antarctic are also outstripping the global average.
...
The warming of the Antarctic is not yet as acute as the Arctic, but it is yet a further indication that the meltdown of our polar caps continues apace. If world leaders fail to act on this information the effects will be calamitous.

“The world is caught in a polar pincer movement,” said Neil Hamilton, Director of WWF International’s Arctic Programme.

“What is happening at the poles will control the world’s climate. If we do not stop the poles from melting, the whole world will feel it, in the form of runaway warming and rising waters.”

The point I’m making is that in 100 years, for some places that extra foot won’t make much of a difference. Some low lying areas will be affected certainly, but even some of the lowest lying areas of the earth won’t see all that much impact from a third of a meter of sea level rise in 100 years. Probably the worst place to live is in a river delta which is almost at sea level anyway. Even so, 30 cm falls short of the lowest notch on this graph of 1 meter.

MC: Yeah, that’s what I do with Youth Service America — we do a whole thing where kids could find ways…it doesn’t matter what you do, but as long as you’re doing something. It doesn’t matter if you’re cleaning up trash or if you’re going house to house and asking people what they want to do to help — big or small, if you’re doing something, you’re making a difference, so that’s the way I think of it.

EI: Do you believe your generation can actually save the world?

MC: I think so much has been done and it’s a lot to undo, but I think we can because we’ve got so many different technologies of seeing what’s wrong and whatnot, and I think there’s a way to do that, but we can’t do that without anyone’s help.
Climate change algorithm created - UPI.com
LETHBRIDGE, Alberta, April 6 (UPI) -- A Canadian-led team of scientists has developed a mathematical approach to the relocation of people that will result from climate change.

University of Lethbridge Professor Sajjad Zahir and colleagues Ruhul Sarker of the University of New South Wales and Ziaul Al-Mahmud of the Lethbridge Community Network have devised an algorithm to address the problem of population relocation.

The team said its approach will help governments decide what fraction of a population would need to be relocated and how many people could stay behind for effective adaptation to climate change.

The researchers said their algorithm takes into account people's preferences, various costs and planning priorities, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that the issue of relocation is addressed fairly and is economically viable.

Our keynote speaker from the US covered the climate science in a very graphic way – and we could see all his slides! We took questions first in York and then handed over to the international audience – dominated by questions from Argentina, Colombia and the US. Three more speakers followed on the effects of global warming on the health of the vulnerable, the medical benefits to a population of reducing carbon overuse (eg fewer road accidents and less obesity) and the legal issues of the generational impact of climate change on children as yet unborn. Finally, we had an extended discussion on action we could take.
Doubt No More, Humans Cause Global Warming | Trends Updates
The debate whether humans have brought about global warming has been settled. Human activity that brings about the emission of carbon dioxide or CO2 has been causing the rise in the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. The burning of fossil fuels, through human activity, has produced about 75 percent of the increase in CO2 levels for the past 20 years. Carbon dioxide, the principal greenhouse gas that rises to the atmosphere, is the main cause behind the rise in the Earth’s temperature. It is man that has caused for the planet to heat up.

In China, which was politically excluded from the Kyoto Protocol, coal fired power plants were being constructed at a rate of two a week. The net effect of this is that China was powering its economy at less than 2cents/kWh while the USA was attempting to compete with power costs at least five times greater because of global warming advocacy. It is not a coincidence that when the Chinese overtook the USA in CO2 emissions in 2006, that the economy of China also increased dramatically while the US economy was starting to stagnate because of the limited and costly energy supply.

Dutch Government ditches eco ticket tax in efforts to halt declining traffic at Amsterdam Schiphol on GreenAir Online
Mon 30 Mar 2009 – The Dutch Government is to scrap from July 1 its air passenger ticket tax, first dubbed the ‘eco’ tax when it was introduced against major opposition by aviation and local industry last year. The controversial departure tax, which ranges from 11 to 45 euros, is blamed for a steep decline in passenger traffic at the main Dutch airports, particularly at Amsterdam Schiphol. The move was welcomed by airlines, particularly those from the low-cost sector, who called for similar taxes to be abandoned in Italy, Ireland and the UK.

The tax was expected to raise around €300 million ($395m) a year but a commissioned report concluded that it would cost the Dutch economy €1.3 billion ($1.7bn) in lost revenue.

In a 2007 statement, Casteen said he shared the initiative’s concern about global warming and supports measures at UVa that would curtail harmful emissions.

Yet Casteen added that he opposed the climate neutrality pledge for several reasons, such as that it would require UVa to commit future taxpayer dollars to the goal without appropriate planning or cost justification.

It would, he said, require UVa to commit itself to implementing technologies to cut emissions that do not yet exist. Casteen also pointed out that the General Assembly has not authorized such an action, which he said would be required under Virginia law.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), government-funded “scientists”, have announced that the Wilkins Ice Shelf in the Antarctic is on the verge of collapsing.

Funnily enough, the BAS said exactly the same thing last year except last year the Wilkins Ice Shelf was the size of the Isle of Man and this year it’s the size of Wales. That’s a hell of a lot of growth considering that global warming is supposed to be melting all the ice.

And there’s still no explanation from the BAS or any other global warming propagandists as to how the Wilkins Ice Shelf can collapse in 1998 and again in 2008 2009.

There is, of course, one explanation for all this: it’s another piece of outdated propaganda, invented by the author of the IPPC work of fiction on climate change (who happens to be the BAS lead “scientist”) and faithfully reproduced by lazy journalists in the mainstream media.

So we see that the chairman — of the Energy Committee, mind you — understands not so much the substance of the issue at hand but at least the real important thing: raising revenue from taxpayers, especially for pet projects.Which makes sense, really, given that New York’s scheme, like RGGI and Kyoto (even if put on steroids) would each do one obvious thing — finally achieve a long-held wish-list of rent-seekers and nagging pressure groups — and notably avoid doing another — detectably impact the climate. That is, this has never been about the climate. There’s no reason to start expecting it to be, now.

The arithmetic or green jobs is ineluctable and grim. For each utility worker who moves from conventional electricity generation to renewable generation, two jobs at a similar rate of pay must be foregone elsewhere in the economy, otherwise the funds to pay for the excess costs of renewable generation cannot be provided. Moreover, by raising costs throughout the economy, high cost green energy will reduce the competitiveness of US exporters, thereby destroying (presumably well-paying) jobs in such industries.

Analysis by the Environmental Protection Agency concludes that if the U.S. reduces CO2 emissions 60 percent by 2050, it will reduce global temperature by 0.1 to 0.2 degree Centigrade by 2095. A multi–lateral approach wouldn’t fare much better. Why? Well, there’s a lot of reasons. After all, the science behind global warming is anything but conclusive, but one reason could be how small man’s contribution to carbon dioxide emissions is.

"Renewable" Energy: In Search of Definition — MasterResource
Renewable is an energy resource that is replaced rapidly by natural processes… Non-renewable is any resource that is not replaced in a reasonable amount of time (our lifetime, our children’s lifetime, …) and is thus considered ‘used up’ and not available to us again.

Such words as “rapidly” and “reasonable” are subjective, relative terms—not scientific. Another pivotal aspect ignored in these definitions is the fact that although a source (e.g., wind) may be quickly replenishable, it uses up other resources (e.g., land) that are non-replenishable. We will run out of suitable land for wind power sooner than we will run out of fossil fuels. Shouldn’t the entire package be assessed as a whole?

Exercising their right to be cold: Still more about the alarmist team hoping to raise our heating bills on a scam that will allegedly make the world even colder
In disadvantaged inner cities it’s known in medical circles as Urban Hypothermia. GPs adopted the term after seeing an increase, during winter, of elderly patients who have switched off their heating, fearful of the cost, and become ill as a result because of the cold.

Chronic, as opposed to acute, hypothermia is the official term.

The Catlin Arctic Survey Team have now been working in temperatures of below -40 degrees centigrade for more than 30 days. When the three (Pen Hadow, Ann Daniels and Martin Hartley) leave messages on the TVM - a machine that records the messages they phone into London HQ - their voices often sound slurred and they occasionally muddle their words.

Extreme cold affects the senses and everyday skills we usually take for granted, like speaking. According to CAS medical adviser Doc Martin, the team are constantly battling chronic hypothermia, which was to be expected. (Pen Hadow has described it as an ‘occupational hazard’).

“Chronic hypothermia affects people who are under-nourished, physically and mentally tired and not sleeping well”, says Doc. “You can see the connection between vulnerable elderly people and the physical and mental condition that Pen, Ann and Martin are in”.

Typical illogical alarmist claim: Warming in the Arctic would make it harder for reindeer to access food that lies beneath the snow

Happy News - Satellite Snow Maps Help Reindeer Herders Adapt to a Changing Arctic
Arctic reindeer herders are facing the challenges of adapting to climate change as a warmer Arctic climate makes it harder for herds to find food and navigate. To help them adapt, the ESA-backed Polar View initiative is providing the herders with satellite-based snow maps.

"Snow is of paramount importance for reindeer herding because its quality determines whether reindeer are able to access the pastures that lie beneath it for much of the year," said Anders Oskal, the Director of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR). "Detailed circumpolar snow information is, thus, becoming increasingly important following the recent changes in the Arctic climate."

There has been no significant warming of the planet since 1995, including the year claimed to be the warmest in 1998. The sun has gone quiet with no sunspots, and the earth has cooled in the last five years, warming and cooling as it has always done.

The natural cycles of warming and cooling suggest that we are in for some seriously cold weather in coming years. The illusion that wind and solar can produce enough power to keep us warm is beyond reason. And greenies would quickly turn up to protest (and take legal action against) new power grids, extensive solar arrays, or large wind farms. They want the Earth to be pristine, the new Eden, and will fight to achieve their fantasies.

Next, the federal government is seriously considering cap and trade legislation to wage war against mythical global warming. Using the same whacked out math formula that the aforementioned liberal website used to arrive at the $800 million dollar cash infusion, we can now assume a cost to the commonwealth of an additional $840 million if cap and trade legislation passes. That makes the “middle class” tax cut now worth negative $340 million to Kentuckians.

PoliGazette » The Carbon Tax Solution to Climate Change Won’t Work
It’s going to take a lot of government incentivizing to get anyone to consider that part of the United States viable for wind, and the Northeast and Midwest viable for solar. So yes, Andrew is right. A carbon tax would end a large government regulation program, but a large government subsidy program would go in its place. That’s hardly limiting the size of government, at least from where I’m sitting. The subsidizing is likely to happen, anyway, minus a carbon tax, but it would still exist either way. Lets not even get into the overspending the government is likely to do in a knee-jerk reaction to public furor over their increased energy taxes.

So, there you have it. A carbon tax would create financial hardship for years, maybe decades, before alternative energy would become widespread, if it ever does. It would not actually lead to less government, but more government, since subsidies would need to be given to bring the technology to certain areas of the country. Personally, I think the former problem is the worse of the two, since we’re already in extremely harsh financial conditions. I simply don’t think a tax would be sustainable for long, even in the best of economic conditions. The reason is simple politics. Even if you could initially persuade the American public that this was a good thing, politicians would shy away once constituents started demanding the end of them. There are not many politicians that are going to tie their chances for re-election on an unpopular tax. It’s just not going to happen.

QUT offers climate change [scam] law scholarship - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Queensland University of Technology will become the first in the country to offer a scholarship to study the legal ramifications of climate change.

QUT is offering the scholarship, worth almost $100,000, for a PhD student to do research on legal issues arising from global warming.

The university says a lot of work has been done on science and economic aspects of climate change, but not legal ones.

The director of the university's Law and Justice Research Centre, Bill Duncan, believes it will be important in the future to fully understand the legalities of a carbon emissions trading scheme, or even global warming-related lawsuits.

"Lawyers are quite inventive these days and there could be actions against corporations for lack of compliance with regulations in relation to that," he said.

Mr Duncan says there will be a huge increase in legal action and regulation relating to global warming.

Feb '08: Wind Farms Threaten Endangered Whooping Crane - Science - redOrbit
Federal officials warned today that wind farms have become a potential new threat to the North American whooping crane population. Long endangered, the gigantic birds were once at a U.S. population of just 15 in 1941. Conservation efforts have restored the number to 266 today.

However, wind farms have become so widespread in the migration routes of the birds from Canada to Texas that the cranes are now at risk of death or injury from either crashing into large wind turbans and transmission lines or through loss of habitat from the farms.

"Basically you can overlay the strongest, best areas for wind turbine development with the whooping crane migration corridor," said Tom Stehn, whooping crane coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in an Associated Press report.
...
Crashing into power lines represents the most common cause of death for the whooping cranes. Stehn said the industry could help by marking its power lines, which run from transmission towers. "Each crane is precious when you only have 266 [in the U.S.]," he added.

But much has happened in the past few months that truly was unthinkable, and only a single year ago. We must, therefore, maintain the eternal vigilance that is needed to preserve our God-given rights that no one has the authority to rescind. Stand up with us and demand that your elected officials carefully scrutinize both sides of the CO2-climate debate and think for themselves. We need thoughtful men and women of integrity to guide our nation, not mindless lemmings.

White Roofs in Urban Heat Islands a Cool Idea
Akbari, along with Surabi Menon, another LBNL scientist, and Arthur Rosenfeld, a former LBNL scientist and now a California Energy Commission board member, claim that painting urban surfaces in warm parts of the world white or a light color could offset the carbon emissions of all 600 million of the world's cars for 18 to 20 years — at a savings equivalent to at least $1 trillion worth of CO2 reductions.
Washington Times - Obama proposals cap growth
Senate Democratic leaders do not have the 60 votes to bring cap-and-trade to an up-or-down vote. And even if they had 60 members of their party in the Senate, they would lose many, if not most, Midwestern and Gulf-state Democrats who fear that former Vice President Al Gore's so-called climate-change tax scheme on all carbon emissions would be the death knell of their states' oil- and gas-powered economies.

Missouri: Gardeners prepare for freeze expected tonight
Master gardener Shelley Vaugine of Springfield talked of the same freeze after she finished covering her crops with straw earlier this afternoon. “It was two years ago when we had that frost,” she said, noting it caused a great deal of damage to crops.

North Carolina: Farmers fear late freeze
A cold front moving across the Great Lakes area will send temperatures into the low 30s by Monday night, with rain and snow showers possible, the National Weather Service said. Tuesday should clear up, but the high will be only about 40 and the low that night should be in the low to mid-20s.

Most people are rational. Most care about the planet and the legacy they will leave their children.

Given rational, practical, meaningful ways to improve the environment, they'll respond.

But simultaneously yelling at people we're facing Armageddon, while shilling for trivial nonsense like "Earth Hour" and picking our pockets to pay for pretend "green" initiatives, isn't rational.

It's surrendering to the fortune tellers and witch doctors.
